Kiersten Mitchell is a freelance writer and literature teacher from the Florida Panhandle.  Since obtaining an undergraduate degree in Secondary English Education from the University of North Florida, she has returned to Ft. Walton Beach. In addition to teaching high school, she is currently working on a collection of short stories exploring the complex and evolving issues of race, gender, and land within Southern ideology.  Her blog, American Pen and Ink, explores a wide-variety of story-telling modalities (and of course, the inner-workings of the minds who tell these stories!)  with art-inspired  posts on current news, pop culture,  literature, and criticism.
